The best way to build your grip is to challenge it by holding onto things that are hard to hang onto. Towels naturally work the whole hand including the thumb while also strengthening the wrist and pull chain muscles.

Some people find this move can be a little hard on the fingers. Don't worry, as this discomfort will fade as your hands become conditioned to the exercise. Also, don't forget that some of your grip muscles work the pinching motion in your palm. I recommend grasping the towel with your palm first and then wrap your fingers around to complete the hold .

You can progress your towel hangs in different ways. You can use thicker towels or double up the towels you are using to create a thicker grip. You can also employ the same progressions used in pulling exercises like using a narrow grip or shifting weight to one side to make it work harder. Any of the progressive elements that work for pull chain exercises will work for towel hangs.

Lastly, feel free to experiment with using towels while doing rows and pull-ups to challenge your grip during your pull workout. Be sure not to use exercises that put you at risk of losing your grip and falling. Start with easy variations and work up from there.
